Fe 14 A East Cork Hurling Champions
Midleton 3-18 v Sarsfields 1-12
We played Sarsfields in the final of the East Cork U 14 A hurling final
in Cobh last Wednesday evening.
We played against the wind in the first half and found ourselves in an
almighty battle early on. It was point for point in the first quarter until they scored a goal and led by 5 points. However our boys reacted immediately and scored 1-05 without reply to lead at halftime by 3 points. After the break scores were hard to come by for awhile but entering the last quarter we improved our performance dramatically and put up a very impressive scoreline with all our forwards and midfielders contributing. After the game Regina Abernethy Chairperson of the East Cork Juvenile Board presented the cup to our winning captain Michael Abernethy.

Fe 8 Blitz
Midleton’s Under 8 hurlers travelled to Killeagh for the third of four blitz’s on Saturday 27th June. Once again we fielded two teams – The Lions and the Tigers.
Both Midleton teams played one half of each game against Fr O’Neills, Killeagh and Youghal.
The energy and enthusiasm was as usual clear to see. Our players are also showing more positional sense and are using both defensive and attacking skills learned in training. Well done to all who participated. Our thanks to the folks from Killeagh GAA who organised the event.
Finally the last blitz takes place in Midleton GAA pitch on Saturday 4th July. Players should be at the field for 10.30am.
Best Wishes
Good luck to our representatives with the Cork Minor hurlers in their replay against Tipperrary on this Wednesday night, July 1st.

Junior A Hurling Championship Defeat.
Our Junior A hurlers opened their championship campaign on Saturday last against Erins Own. This game took place in Cobh in ideal conditions. Our opponents got off to a better start and after ten minutes led by four points to one. There was not much between the sides but Midleton were finding it harder to come by scores with a heavy reliance on the free taking of Michael Keohane and Liam Walsh.
Erins Own goaled as we approached half time. A long delivery was flicked to the net and this goal gave our opponents a three point half time advantage, 1-06 to 0-06.
In the second half it was more of the same, though we tried hard we were struggling for scores. Our opponents were more economical. Erins Own stretched their lead and then they scored a second goal. Again it was a disappointing one to concede as another long delivery seemed to go all the way to the net. This gave our opponents an eight point lead. We continued to try hard but lacked penetration and guile in our forward line. We narrowed the gap to five points but never looked like threatening to overcome the deficit. This now leads to the losers section where we will face Fr.O’Neills second team.
