Midleton Hurling and Football, Ladies Football and Camogie Club Notes - June 6

COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 2

MIDLETON 1-26 CARRIGALINE 0-17

Our senior hurlers made it seven wins from seven league games on Saturday in front of a big crowd at a sun-drenched Clonmult Memorial Park.

Points from Pa White (2), Sam Quirke and Cormac Beausang had the sides level at 0-4 apiece after eight minutes. 

We then hit six points in a row through Mikey Finn, Paul Connaughton, Ross O'Regan and three from Cormac Beausang to see us lead by 0-10 to 0-4 with four minutes to play in the opening half.

Points followed from Pa White, Luke O'Farrell, Ross O'Regan and Cormac Beausang to see us lead by 0-14 to 0-7 at the break.

Carrigaline opened the second-half with two early points before Alex Quirke was pulled down for a penalty for the home side on four minutes. Up came Brion Saunderson to lash the ball to the Carrigaline net to put us into a 1-14 to 0-9 lead.

Points frollwed from Ross O'Regan (2) and Cormac Beausang to see us lead by 1-17 to 0-13 with 11 minutes to play.

Luke O'Farrell, Paul Haughney, Cormac Beausang, David Cremin and Pa White points saw us lead by 1-23 to 0-14 as the game entered injury-time and there was still time for three more points from, Alex Quirke, Ross O'Regan and Mikey FInn to see us end up 12 point victors on a final score of 1-26 to 0-17. 

We have two league games to go. First up is a trip to Newtownshandrum on Friday, June 21 before we are due to play St. Finbarr's in the last game of the league on Sunday, June 30 in Togher.

JUNIOR HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 2

ST. CATHERINES 0-10 MIDLETON 2-17

We made the trip to Ballynoe on a lovely Bank Holiday Monday and came away with the points. Two early goals were the difference in the opening half as we led 2-7 to 0-6. In the second-half then our defence held firm and we tacked on some good scores to see the game out.

We have one remaining league fixture in Youghal (June 18), a win there and we will be through to the league final and automatically promoted to Division 1.

Our Junior Division 3 team is out this coming Monday evening in Carrigtwohill with an 8pm throw in. We are also in the hunt for a place in the league final and promotion here.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL

Our Junior A footballers have qualified for the league semi-finals where they will meet Glanmire in Sallybrook on Sunday (June 9), at 1.30pm. 

Our Junior C footballers will also be in league semi-final action next Friday (June 14) when they make the short journey to Ballinacurra for a 7pm start. It's a repeat of last week's final group stage game which Ballinacurra won by 1-9 to 0-9.

 

COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 2

After a week off, our Intermediates are back in action this week when they entertain Dungourney at home in Clonmult Memorial Park on this coming Tuesday night (June 11) at 7.30pm.

JUVENILES 

CELTIC CHALLENGE 

A massive congratulations to East Cork who were winners of this year's All-Ireland Corn John Scott Celtic Challenge by beating Dublin on a scoreline of 4-16 to 3-12 on Sunday in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny.

Big congratulations to our Midleton lads Sean and Paudie O'Brien (selectors) and players Nicky Coughlan, Eoin Ahern, Cian Stack, Matthew McSweeney (joint captain), Conor Finn, Josh Foley and Josh Hogan who all played a huge part in the victory. Well done to all.

 

NEALEY HORGAN FOOTBALL STREET LEAGUE FINALS

The finals of the Midleton GAA Nealey Horgan Football Street Leagues for both boys and girls will take place this Saturday morning in Clonmult Memorial Park, with the first match throwing in at 10.15am. The players will gather at the green beside Super Valu at 9.30am and march behind the piper to Midleton GAA Club. Everyone is welcome on Saturday to show your support.

CAMOGIE 

UNDER 11S

Our U-11s enjoyed a friendly blitz versus Douglas and Dungourney away in Douglas GAA on Monday last. The girls displayed their skills and enjoyed the day.

UNDER 13S

Well done to our U-13s (white) team in a very hard-fought victory against Aghada on Thursday last in League action. Despite many opportunities for in the first-half, Aghada were on top at half-time. Midleton came out fighting in the second half and chipped at the score one point at a time. All the girls were outstanding on the night and it was a true team effort for the win!

UNDER 15S

Well done to our U-15s who rounded off their Imokilly League campaign versus St. Catherine’s in Clonmult Memorial Park on Saturday morning. It was a good competitive game between two teams who know each other well. We had the bare 15 and in intense heat that told in the end with St. Catherine’s winning out. Congratulations to our captain Sarah who put in a great shift as captain (pictured below).

The very best of luck to all our players involved in Junior and Leaving Certificate exams this week.

 

LADIES FOOTBALL

STREET LEAGUE FINALS

Best of luck to all our girls competing in the Nealey Horgan Steet League Finals in Clonmult Memorial Park on Saturday morning next.

 

UNDER 12

Our U-12 black team played Carrigtwohill in the sunshine in Clonmunt Memorial Park on the Bank Holiday Monday. It was a fantastic performance by girls in coming away with the win. Congratulations to Emily (pictured below) on captaining the team.

UNDER 14

Our U-14s were back in action with another home game versus Carrigtwohill on Wednesday. Another tough battle for the team who made a great effort until the end. Thank you to the U-13s girls who help us field on the night.  Captain for the game was Eva (pictured below).

 

CAMOGIE TEAMS

Congratulations to the Junior Camogie team and all our Football Ladies and coaches involved in their win over Ballinascarthy in the League final on Wednesday night. Best of luck to the Junior 2 team in their league final on Friday night.
