FÉ14S

COUNTY CHAMPIONS

What a week it was four our Fé14s. Just five days after winning the Rebel Og East Division 1 Football Championship final, they were back in action, this time competing for the Sean Keohane Cup, in the Rebel og Premier 1 Hurling Championship final in Ballinlough.

The young Magpies saved their best performance for the final, with a comprehensive win over a very good Ballinora side. Final score: Midleton 2-11 Ballinora 1-7.

We had a light training session the following Monday evening in Park South where we were joined by Cairen Keohane, brother of Sean, who the Co. U-14 AHC Cup is named after.

Cairen spoke to the boys of his delight to see the Cup back in Midleton for the second year running and complimented them on their fine performance. Well done all. Up the Magpies

On Sunday, June 23 our Fé14s travelled to Dungourney to take on Cobh in the Rebel Og East Division 1 football championship final.

An outstanding performance from every man on the field saw them lead by three at half time 1-7 to 0-7.

Upping a gear for the second half secured a comfortable win. Thanks to all parents for their continued support. Captain on the night was Eoghan Donovan.

Midleton 6-15 Cobh 1-8

On Monday, June 24 our C3 hurlers were back in league action versus Sarsfields in Park South. Some excellent defending on show from the Magpies but scores were hard to come by against a strong Sars side. Many thanks to Harry Cronin, Jack Flynn, Andrew McSweeney, Mason Richards, Jack Twohig, Seanie B, Jack McSweeney and Naoise O Dalaigh from our Fé13s for answering the call.

MINORS

The Midleton Minor Footballers made it two wins in a week, after defeating Aghada on the Friday night, it was Inniscarra in Clonmult Memorial Park  in Division 1 East Football League, in what was a very close match Midleton edged ahead with a Sean McSharry penalty before half time to lead 1-5 to 0-5 having played with a strong wind at their backs. The second half was an equaly close battle having exchanged two points each Inniscarra kicked on scoring 0-3 without reply down the straight to leave the game level with time almost up, Odhran Dennigan slotted over a late free to secure the victory, Midleton 1-8 Inniscarra 0-10. That is now five wins from five outings, Youghal away are next.

ADULTS

COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 2

Our seniors brought their league campaign to an end with two away games, to Newtownshandrum and St. Finbarr's.

We lost out in Newtown on a scoreline of 0-20 to 0-12 and then we lost out to St. Finbarr's on a score of 1-22 to 0-15.

These two defeats saw us finish our campaign on 14 points after seven wins and two defeats.

CAMOGIE

UNDER 10S

Last Saturday week our U10s were at Supervalu Pairc Uí Caoimh to give the Cork and Galway senior team a guard of honour. Then at half time they entertained the crowd to a camogie match played against Bandon. The girls played fantastic. A great day was had and was made even more special when they got their photo taken with Cork U16 team as well as getting to meet the Cork senior players after the match when all hurleys were signed.

Our U12 White team travelled to Douglas on Friday 6th July to play their first match in Phase four of the U12 League. While the weather was not on our side and we faced a strong Douglas team, the girls showed their determination and skill and battled hard, particularly in the second half showing great confidence and putting Douglas to the test. The host team took the win in the end but by a narrow margin which is testament to our girls fighting spirit. Well done girls!

Well done to the U12 White Team who then came away with a win on Tuesday evening in Park South against a tough Mayfield opposition.  Conditions were not great but both teams battled hard.  The girls played some fantastic football and worked really well as a team. A great effort by every single player.

U-13 COUNTY SEMI-FINAL

Hard luck to our U13 girls who battled hard against a very strong Carrigaline side. Unfortunately not our night but the girls put in a fantastic effort. Well done all and to Roisin who was captain for the night.

U-16 & MINOR MEDAL PRESENTATION

2023 was an outstanding year for Midleton LGFA, securing three titles in the latter half of the season. The U16 team clinched the County Final in October and the East Cork Final in November, followed by the Minors triumphing in the East Cork League Final in December. To celebrate these achievements, we held a medal presentation for all three finals at the Club last week.

It was a fantastic evening enjoyed by everyone. A massive well done to the Ladies and their management team, as well as the parents and families who tirelessly support their daughters in becoming the exceptional players they are. Magpies Abú!

MINOR

Our minors played Erin's Own in the East Cork League last Thursday, unfortunately it wasn't our night.  Huge congratulations to minor player Ava McAuliffe who started with the Cork Senior Ladies on last Saturday. Cork secured the win against Waterford and are now through to an All-Ireland Semi-Final.

JUNIORS

Midleton travelled west to beautiful Bantry town to what must be one of the most scenic pitches in the country to contest the Cork Senior LGFA Div 3 League Final against our hosts Bantry.  The huge support that turned out for the home team added to the atmosphere and was really the 16th player for Bantry.

All of this probably had an impact on us so much so that we didn't know what we were at for the first 10 minutes. Bantry came out of the block at full speed racing into an 11 point lead, the score standing at 3-3 to 0-1.  As Vivienne said after the game "we were still in our cars for the first ten minutes".

Despite this our girls got into the game, sorting out their defence and started running at Bantry. The next 50 minutes turned into a blistering contest.  Our girls began to find their rhythm.  They attacked with pace and defended in packs, making it difficult for Bantry to extend their lead further. Their persistence paid off just before halftime when Sadhbh scored a well taken penalty bringing Midleton back into contention. Trailing by five at the break.

The second half saw a determined effort from Midleton as we continued to chip away at Bantry's lead. However Bantry's defence held firm and scoring opportunities were hard to come by. In the final 10 minutes we received a yellow card reducing Midleton's numbers on the pitch, yet we showed great team spirit and kept going to the end looking for that decisive score that just didn't materialise.  Not our night but a gallant effort.  With this team who don't know what you will get but it will not be for the lack of trying.  Our day will come.

Final Score: Midleton 2-8 Bantry 3-7

MIDLETON: Rayanna Power, Sorcha Cronin, Claudia Kearney, Leah Hogan, Megan Kelly, Lucy Cashman, Vivienne Gleeson, Lucy Wallace (1-1), Molly Beausang (Captain), Meghan Wallace, Rachel Quirke, Lucy Kenneally, Ella Quirke, Sadhbh Beausang (1-7), Lily Kelly, Kate O'Sullivan, Molly Manning, Caoimhe Cronin, Leah Daly, Rachel Ryan, Jodi O'Donovan, Ciara Murphy,

JUNIOR 2C LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL

Our second junior team have secured a place in the League County Final beating Glanmire in a great game played in Park South on Tuesday night.

The girls played very well and worked hard as a team.  Despite being a goal down after two minutes, we worked tirelessly and came away with a 10 point win against an experienced Glanmire team. Final Score: Midleton 2:12 Glanmire 2:02

The girls will contest the final on Sunday next, July 14 against Carrigaline in Delaney's GAA Club please support the girls.

MIDLETON: Deirdre Kenny, Molly Manning, Leah Hogan, Caoimhe Cronin, Megan Kelly, Claudia Kearney, Jodi O'Donovan, Lucy Kenneally (0-4), Jodie Keegan O'Connell, Leahy Daly, Meghan Wallace, Rachel Ryan (1-2), Ella Quirke, Rachel Quirke (0-6), Kate Dineen (1-0), Vivienne Gleeson, Lily Kelly
